The best performance of my life.
“Kia rite, kia rite, kia mau….Hii! D-day was here. We’d been training for our annual cultural festival at Northland College for what seemed like ages. It was my job to lead the boys haka and the whole crew. I felt nervous when I had to start the haka.
The crowd got pumped up when I started the haka. They were cheering loud. I had to start the Haka off loud so the boys will get pumped up too. I set the pace for the Haka so that they can keep that way and not go too fast. But they actually did. That’s when I came in and slowed the pace down. That worked as the crowd cheered and clapped for our haka.
I felt nervous like the earth trembling as I walked up and down the rows. My arms were stiff as a dead cat lying on the road. I couldn’t do the actions properly. I couldn’t yell the words I needed to say. I thought I was going to forget all the actions and the commands. I was so nervous.
But………
I had to ask the teachers how I was. And they said “You were awesome!”
Now I wish I could stay and do it all over again. That was my highlight of the term.
